Guest sharky
Ornge Issues Update Regarding Scene Call, March 26, 2010 TORONTO, March 26, 2010 – Information regarding an Ornge aircraft hitting a wire when departing a scene call in the area of the QEW and Erin Mills Parkway was voluntarily reported to all applicable agencies this morning. Ornge is committed to providing the highest quality, safe patient transports. We take this matter seriously and are conducting our own investigation into the matter. The helicopter sustained minor damage which is being repaired. The helicopter has been inspected by a technical representative from manufacturer Sikorsky, and is slated to return to service tomorrow. A backup helicopter was brought into service as quickly as possible to ensure continuity of care. The two pilots and two paramedics aboard the aircraft were not injured. Ornge would like to reiterate our thanks to members of the public and the media who have called to express concern regarding the safety of our crew. ABOUT ORNGE Ornge operates from bases across the province of Ontario and performs more than 20,000 admissions annually. CHL VPSafety
WOW!! Glad nobody was hurt!! Do you know if they flew it back to the pad like that, DB?? Geez, the hi - pitch vibrations must've been wonky!!! How severe was the damage other then the tail rotor?? Any further info on this?? While completing a pedal turn to reposition for departure from the scene call, the aircraft cut a small fibre optic cable that was strung between a series of temporary poles alongside the highway. They had no indication they had contacted the wire, there was no change in flight characteristics enroute to their home base and they were only made aware while on final for landing. There was damage to the T/R tip cap area but no deformation or damage to the spar. Overall, minor damage and a fortunate outcome. The crew was shaken and stirred but are otherwise in good shape. Thanks for all who have expressed concern. Cheers Walter CHL EMS Safety Manager
