Hazy
CARS 625 Appendix A provides a list of all tasks that are classified as 'elementary maintenance'. Changing the IBF filter is not one of them. http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/civilaviation/regserv/cars/part6-standards-a625a-2458.htm "a helicopter having a maximum permissible take-off weight of 2 730 kg (6,018 pounds) or less;" Why not? Is it not an air filter? There are privately operated helicopters out there.

There are privately operated helicopters out there. You can change air filters on small private aircraft, the intent (I would think) being unpressurized, piston-powered, non-commercial aircraft. I suppose one could stretch it out to include any non-commercial aircraft under the weight limit, which unfourtunately still dosen't help any of us working in commercial ops. dimit
Sorry, I don't have any more info on the IBF/elementary maint. issue, just that an operator I've heard of is apparently doing this quite legally. DM
Kramer
I won't say much, but how about this... Check your alternator air door actuator BEFORE you leave the hangar. They're a bit of a PITA to replace, and you are AOG if it winds up in the book (uh-oh, I just said that).
Heliian
Since the replacement of the AFS IB filtre only requires a screwdriver and is non-structural, you can train your staff through the MCM/MPM and allow them to change it, no problem.
