i spend an inordinate amount of time on the road teaching in my busy season... after being "on" all day long, i enjoy the hot tub in the hotel, work on some program development stuff, surf the net if the hotel has it...

RB2's got a great page, by the way... B)

and if i have the daylight left, i still like to find the local airport and hangar fly if anyone's around... B)

Being away from home can be depressing sometimes, especially when you have nothing to do, the secret is find something to entertain yourself.

I have been away from home since May 22 this year and sometimes get quite fed up with this life style.

For instance it is now 1:10 in the morning and obviously im looking for something to pass time until I get sleepy enough to go to bed.

This summer I managed to do some things that I have always wanted to do between airshows and giving type rating instruction.

My wife came over to Holland and we took the train to Poland and visited the Aushwich, Birkenau (sp?) death camps of WW2......every school child on earth should see these places of unbelievable horror to better understand what happens when governments are allowed to run rampant and turn into brutal police states. The sobering thing about these death camps is they operated within our life time.

It was also sobering to see the results of socialism in the former communist countries, East Germany and Poland are still struggling to recover from the devestatoin of socialism.

Anyhow I got another ten days off while the airplane was down for an inspection and we went to Luxor Egypt for a week and visited many very interesting Egyptian sites as well as spent some time on the Nile in an Egyptian sail boat.

Now I'm on my own again as the wife went back home yesterday....

Hopefully I will be finished here around the second week in Sept.

By the way I will be seventy in two months and am still flying at the same pace as when I was I my twenties so looking at it from that standpoint I am a very fortunate person and am making the best of the remaining years I may have in aviation.

Tomorrow I may do some more recurrent training in the Pitts Special if I feel up to it as I am still thinking about taking a shot at the unlimited aerobatic competetions, it is quite demanding as one really has to work at feeling positive and keep in top physical and mental shape.

Hope Im not boring you guys, just thought I would post again as I have not done so for a while.

OH MY!!!

I feel so ridiculous now for feeling bored and lonely after hearing that you have first of all been away for that long and that you are 70 years old to boot. You have been doing this much much longer than I have been in existence. You are a true inspiration!!!

I hope that when I am 70 I am able to do half of that. I have always wanted to learn more about WWII in particular. I find it so intriguing that all this happened 60 - 65 years ago and we are all so quick to forget. I get pretty choked when Rememberance Day comes every year and people work and move it to a Friday or Monday because it works better for them to have a long weekend. People truly don't understand the sacrifices that were made and how much we should appreciate and respect it. I am not so certain that kids 16 - 25 nowadays would be so eager as they were in the past to stand up for true freedom and fight for it.

Anyway, that is entirely off topic and a totally different rant. I just want to thank you sir for sharing with me (us). I really do appreciate it.

Aaaccckkk. The Rev's back in the house! What an awesome summer you've had! It's always good to hear what you're up to; get to live vicariously through you. Ha! If you get bored again in Heartbreak Hotel, tell some more if/when time allows and you feel like it. :) My best for the aerials if you end up doing it!

I'm in the same boat working on some pretty remote (and nasty) drilling sites in Northern AB.

As the others have said, try to find something constructive to do, the photo journal seems good bearing in mind some of the places 've visited are pretty remote and the surrounding area beautiful (If only the Motels I stayed in were as nice!).

Looks like my up and coming 2 week trip to Cold Lake will involve a lot of photography when I get some time off work!
