transquebecniece
Was very sorry to read about this tragedy. Heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of those lost, and to the family that is CHC Global. Truly tragic.
transquebecniece
This from the News link: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england...ire/6271587.stm Likely a stupid question, but is it common to have flight data recorders/cockpit voice recorders in commercial helicopters? I shouldn't be surprised...they've been used in military helis for awhile. Is it regulation now for commercial, as well? And if so, for how long? I just never knew and am curious. Thank you. 67november
based on what I've rear so far, An FAR 135 operation or equivent of is required to record all functions of said aircraft used for commercial passenger operations ie the black box is part of the aircraft MEL. I do beleive this is correct! Yes? No?
transquebecniece
So it depends on the intended use of the heli? That would make sense. (Although I think it would be a good idea for all of 'em.) I'd really like to hear more...
T-rex
In Canada I believe it is required under CARs 605.(FDR) Any mutli engine aircraft where the conformity requires two crew, and more than 6 passengers or a multi engine aircraft with 10-30 passengers

onegear
All of Global's offshore A/C have CVR's and a large number of them have FDR's as well. The A/C in question was G reg'd so the UK rules apply. The Customers(Oil Companies) like the CVR's and FDR's for the safety systems.
