What ever happened to "Make hay while the sun shines?"

Maybe I'm a bit old school but ,I better not hear any whining about how few hours these rotation queens have got come December on this forum!

Go hard and then have some fun!

My two cents,

Max

I still enjoy my days off but I have to agree with the "make hay while the sunshines." I'm doing a 9 weeker with 5 days off halfway through. Wife's not super impressed but with a kid due in January, I'm going to need the money.

But you were home in May...right???

It's not all about the "hay" and "the sunshine".

A common mistake made by MANY who have gone down that road before.

It's about family!! Smarten up before it's too late and all you have left is 1/2 your hard earned money and a kid you have to make an appointment to visit!

Blaming your chosen career for the failure of your marriage is like blaming alcohol for the traffic accident.

I agree family is important but give your head a shake.

You put your hand in the air for this gig.

You want the companies to tailor a schedule for you that's fine, but don't whine when you are down on hours.

The costs associated with offering rotations is astronomical and with the current shortage of drivers I wonder how many companies are sticking to what they promised new hires.

Maybe that should be a new thread....

I'll admit that there are some things that need to change in this industry but being held hostage by a 600 hr. driver that thinks he/she should be paid $100,000.00 per year for 4 months worth of work just gets up my nose.

Helicopters didn't ruin your marriage......you did.

Families have survived polar shelf and Dew line service in the arctic for years and with the right people in the marriage they will continue to do so.

Stop blaming others for your shortcomngs.

This is not personal but just a general rant.

As Cap would say...."Nuff said!"

I figured I'd be jumped on for that one. At this stage of my career it's all about the hours and the money sure doesn't hurt. Starting to creep up on the thousand hour mark and it would be nice to get there or **** close by winter if all goes well. I'm not going to have a discussion on my personal life here but I'm still young and I've made it crystal clear to her that the first few years especially are going to be put your head down and work your *** off. I won't be 5 years trying to put together a 1000. When I have more experience I'll be a little more serious about the schedule and do what's right for me and my family, thanks. At my company, the squeeky wheel does NOT get the grease and we have a few retards kicking around with just shy of a thousand with the I want this, I want that attitude. And no surprise here, everybody thinks they're a$$holes! By no means am I saying anybody who flys there behinds off all summer are stupid, I'm just refering to Max C's comment about certain lowtime guys being demanding. Everybody's different and you gotta do whats right for you. All I know is 5 years down the road I'll probably be a lot more reluctant to nod and smile when I get asked to stay another 2 weeks!!

Cheers

Max: For info only!!!!!!

Prior to de-reg the customer was responsible for costs on rotation. There are so many different scenario's, I don't think any company has a firm policy. It would better if the industry got together and set minimum policy and lived by it.

Again prior to de-reg the playing field was better constructed with rules and regulation that applied to all operators.
