Md 600

Anyone flown the MD 600? How is it for utility work? How about at altitude? How's the Notar? Does it handle similar to the 500?

Basically the same blades as the 500 they just put in a bigger turbine, add a blade and allow the angle of attack of the blades to go way beyond their efficient plane.

 

Same engine as a 407 yet gross weight is 1900 lbs less!

 

Also a contender for the worst auto rotation of any helicopter.

MD Helicopters CEO Lynn Tilton was asked about the MD600 at Heli-Expo. Actually, she was asked if the 600 is just going to go away. The answer is no: "I think there's still too much demand for the 600," she said. "People want the power and the larger aircraft." She admitted that the model has a lot of problems, though, and said that the company will be working on improving it.

600N lack of tail rotor authority because there is none. it gets really mushy during power changes. Still one of the safest helicopters ever made though.

From the TSB accident report..........

 

"MDHI has provided a list of 20 field reports of MD600N aft fuselage discrepancies. Twelve were found to have developed crack in the upper right aluminum fittings."

 

.......and all of these are from a worldwide 600N fleet of very few helicopters.
