Wildrose
I am wondering if anyone has replaced a screen on their aera 500’s. If so, where did you buy the replacement screen? I can’t seem to get mine to operate properly no matter how many times I recalibrate.
Saifan Pilot
Time to switch to iPad Mini with ForeFlight. You'll never want to work with a Garmin again!

Pool pilot
Before you rush out to buy the mini iPad. Make sure it is able to have cellular service or else Foreflignt will not be able to track your aircrafts movements. Don't ask me how I know. (Hand covering face in embarrassment)....lol

I disagree, Foreflight on an iPad is very handy and I use it for cross countries but have been using a Garmin 660 for the past couple years and would never depend solely on Foreflight due to the simple fact that it shuts down when it’s too hot and also when it’s cold. I’ve never had those kind of issues with the 660. They’ve made some awesome improvements on the 660 especially with marking and searching for waypoints which I think it lacked in some of the past models. However to each their own I definitely prefer the garmin 660 for day to day work over Foreflight. 1

You don't need an active data plan, just the cellular version. If you don't have the cellular version, just buy a Garmin Glo or a Bad Elf as an external GPS receiver and it will bluetooth to your iPad. I tried the blue tooth for GPS but that was not the greatest idea as it was one more thing to have plugged in and over heat. I also agree with pilot83. If this system decides it is to hot it will shut down and you are scrambling for a map.... if you have them still. I have no idea if it is to cold it will shut down. I don't do winter work. Allergies to snow. The Garman divises I used during my career worked great.

If the iPad gets too cold it will drain the battery very rapidly, so much so that even if you have it charging it will still deplete your battery faster than it charges it. In my opinion Foreflight is good for fixed wing pilots, cross country flights and ifr helicopters not real practical in the bush environment. Too hard to mark waypoints on the go especially if your doing lots of them. Keep the iPad close for sure, it’s always better to pass the time watching a movie in the back seat. Torque Split
To save a current location, zoom in real tight to your position and touch in the middle and it will allow you to save that spot. It will be close enough. Its been a few years but I seem to recall that was the process.

Tough to do on the move when you have to mark multiple locations in a hurry, pretty simple on the 660 just click the power button and mark it. No need to zoom and pinch or fiddle around. I think the 660 is a superior product that’s my opinion.
