Pax Briefs

Recommended Posts

You're going to have accidents even with experienced industry personnel around helicopters. They have been seldom over the eons, but have caused injury and claimed lives also. "Newbie" passengers and kids are a different item altogether and passenger briefings are still neceassary, but one has to almost act as though they didn't give any at all. Excitement and nervousness make the best of us do some real dumb things at times and passenger briefings to these types cover your *** legally I suppose, but for these types I find it's best to treat them all as kids with Grade 2 education and about the same span of attention. Personally, I have someone belt the passengers in, close the doors and do the reverse upon touch-down and escort them closely away from the a/c. Having feet disappear out-of-sight towards the T/R in the sling mirror is too hard on the blood pressure and I have a tendency to loose control over the expletives that eminate from my mouth as a result........and THAT'S not good for PR either. I'd like to believe that that's also one of the reasons that Bell put the T/R on Mediums as high up as they did because I've had more than one "Grunt" in the past attempt to "track" my T/R with his head......and would have if it hadn't been as high as it was.

The fenestron is no safer than a t/r, 'cept for the fact you see it clearer. get within 4 feet of it on the left side and any loose clothing (or limbs) can get sucked in to it pretty quick...

I hope you are not speaking of first hand experience there skidz

He he he. Funny guy you Cole... NOT ! :P

I've seen video of stuf getting picked up and chewed by a Fenestron. Anyone seen the vid of the 135 landed all crooked on the edge of a ski slope ? Guy starts 'er up, and you see huge chunks of snow ingested into the Fenestron, the guy jerkes the machine off the ground. Lucky he didn't have a skid frozen or hooked, 'cause it woulda been all over...

If I find the link I'll post it here...

Here it is !

I landed in really crusty snow years ago. Nosed the skids in deep and the crust came right up to the door. Told the rock doctor to be carefull but of course he had a Doctorate in Geology which made him smarter in all things.

I got distracted for a second and when I looked up to my horror I saw him beside the machine jumping up and down amazed at the strength of the snow crust.

He was wearing a toque with a pom pom on top. The look on his face when the hat got swiped off his head was worth a picture. As close as he wanted to come to losing a few inches off the top without actually getting shorter.
