Was just curious what the hottest or coldest tempertures anyone has ever flown in and where they were when they did it.

The hottest was in Kuwait in the 90's. It was 52 degrees in the afternoon. We had to keep the vents and windows closed in the old 212 because the wind was just too hot. Opening a vent was like putting a hair dryer in your face. 52 was our cutoff because that's as far as the flight manual goes.

 

Coldest was -40 in Tuk. That also was the cutoff. Bloody cold.

Warmest was in Yemen at +47 C and the coldest was up in James Baie in the late 70's, 2 morning in a row at -62C breathing was painfull unless you had a scarf or something in front of your mouth. Of course we didn't fly.

working as a diver we had 53C air temp + 90% Humidity on the dock in Al Quarrayh, Saudi Arabia in the late 90's

Not so much hot as cold.

 

Coldest for me was in Canada's High Arctic maintaining Bell 212 with Shirley Helicopters

--Passage Point, 1981 -56 deg F(sat that day out in tent next to propane heater). Started as a "One day job" slinging a dozer blade from Johnson's to Passage, turned into 17 more "just one more day" events...lots of -40 stuff up there too.

 

Hottest was +38 dec C on firefighting east of Inuvik at Grandview maintaining Bell 212 with Associated Helicopters in 1990.

-45C in an Otter in James Bay 1974 - "Talk of yer cold throught the parka's fold ......"

60C+ at a place called Central Headquarters in the Western Desert of Kuwait. That was in the shade-what it was on the pad I have no idea. Climbing through 3000 feet was great as the temp dropped 5-10 practically in 2-300 feet. At 9000 it was + 18C how's that for a lapse rate?

That was very exceptional - silly to be out in the heat of the day like that - Medevac as I remember - probably for heat exhaustion LOL - only time I saw it that hot - usually it was +-45C out in the desert in the hottest of the summer.

We always carried lots and lots of water - 4 cases at least. Geeze it was hot for the poor 206L drivers doing a recce at 100 ft. with the doors on!
