Deep Throat II
Sorry guys about the cell phone reference, it works off a popular satellite phone network so you will get coverage anywhere in North America.

Phil Croucher
Would they work in UK? Even over here, you could be a smoking ruin and not be found for some time. Phil
as350_b3
DTII, I'm sure you're aware about upcoming contract requirements in the US (I think starting January 2006) for all helicopters on gov contracts to have such a system installed. I think you might have a very receptive buyer group within a year or so. What is the monthly satelite subscription fee? How frequently does it update position info? Oh, yeah, I think I might be interested in 3....
widgeon
I seem to recall OMNR were going to install a US system ( Outerlink ? ) , did they go ahead with it ?.
downwash
Would they work in UK? Phil, unless I'm sorely mistaken, they work just about anywhere GPS works. I'll get the HARD answer for you, though. We're looking pretty closely at this one, which appears to be the first effective system at moderate cost to come down the chute. Helilog56
Now this is a concept that is long overdue. For pilots it is a huge safety net, for operators, tracking a/c and watching it's movements are indispensable, and I can see a huge plus for owners of lease a/c. It could be a huge tool for keeping everyone honest.....
twinstar_ca
to my mind, after reading about this topic, the safety issue is by far the greatest benefit... i was involved with CASARA for a few years after i got my licence and participated in a couple of actual elt searches... something like this would make SAR's a whole lot easier...  kudo's to DTII for bring it up!! helicopper
sounds like it has serious potential for the coppers' use as well... allows them to "spin" their flyin' bandit via satellite ... what's the dimensions of this "giz"??
