:( A tidbit of information just in....a local 206 from a local Chilliwack operator just crashed north of Mission while working for B.C. Forestry. Sounds as though 1 has minor injuries, and 2 have more serious, but all will be okay....

Glad to see everyone got out.

Three people in hospital after helicopter crash

Thursday, October 27, 2005

Mission -- Two men and a woman were taken to hospital after a helicopter crash north of Mission yesterday.

The Bell 206 helicopter, equipped with floats, was trying to land at Devils Lake about 20 kilometres north of Mission when it flipped, said Gerry Pash, a spokesman for the Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria.

He said two search-and-rescue specialists rushed to the site and provided first aid before the victims were taken to hospitals in New Westminster and Vancouver.

The cause of the crash was not known. The chopper is owned by Far West Helicopters of Chilliwack, Mr. Pash said.

Search-and-rescue aircraft responded after receiving a call about the crash at about 1:30 p.m. CP

For those are wondering who the pilot was it wasn't Barry the owner who was flying. Looking at the news last night it looked as if the pilot was landing in the middle of the lake to do lake bottom sampling and if the water was calm, with the 1 bouey in place its most liklely that the pilot must have gotten disoriented of some sort. Those of us who have done this kind of work know that when the water starts waving you get that queasy feeling. Not much fun at all. There should be at least 2 to 3 of these boueys in place. Much cheaper than an accident. They were all very lucky indeed to make it out.
