Recommended Posts

Not sure what's happening but just found this on the Internet.....

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Witnesses say a helicopter has plunged to the ground and burst into flame in a residential neighbourhood in Cranbrook, B.C.

At least three people are believed dead.

Residents say the helicopter was flying above the area when it suddenly crashed and burst into flames. Police and emergency officials are on the scene.

A fire department official says firefighters are on the scene and he, too, confirmed that there are fatalities, but he did not have any further details.

Sarah Taylor, spokeswoman for the BC Ambulance Service, confirms the crash in the town centre.

“We have an ambulance still on scene for fire support. It’s my understanding it’s three people on board and at this time we’re not expecting to transport any patients,” she says.

“The fatalities need to be confirmed by RCMP but unfortunately this is a tragic accident.”

Taylor was not aware whether anyone on the ground being hurt.

“There doesn’t appear to be any other injuries,” she says.

A person answering the telephone at Bighorn Helicopters, a flight school based in Cranbrook, says it was one of their choppers that went down but declined to give any further information.

Witnesses told the Cranbrook Daily Townsman newspaper that the helicopter was circling the neighbourhood about 100 feet off the ground.

“One witness said it looked like it was looking for a place to land and then all of a sudden it came down, like the engines died,” said Barry Coulter, a reporter for the newspaper who went to the scene.

“The helicopter burst into flame. Everything was utterly incinerated,” Coulter recounted from witnesses.
